Queen Victoria

queen victoria portrait Alexandrina Victoria was born on 24 May 1819 at Kensington Place London. Her mother was german Princess Victoria of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld, her father was Prince Edward fourth son of King George III.

Became Queen after she succeeded her uncle William IV to the throne in 1837 aged 18. She reigned for 63 years and 216 days and is the longest serving British monarch.

Married Prince Albert of Sax-Coburg and Gotha in 1840. The prince was also her first cousin. What on to have nine child with Prince Albert, Victoria 1840. Edward 1841, Alice 1843, Alfred 1844, Helena 1846, Arthur 1850, Leopold 1853 and Beatrice 1856. Eight of Victoria's children sat on the thrones of Europe.

German was her first language.She also spoke English and French.

After Prince Alberts death she spent the rest of her life in mourning and only ever worn black clothing from that day on.

Queen Victoria took the title of Empress of Indian in 1876.

Emperor Alexander I of Russia was one of her three god parents.The other two were the Queen of Württemberg and the Dowager Duchess of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld.

The British population more than doubled during her reign.

She survived at least seven assassination attempts during her reign. Three of the would be assassins were found to be insane and were sent to mental asylums.

Died on 1901 aged 81 and 243 days on the Isle of Wight.
