Stephen Fry

stephen fry Stephen John Fry was born in Hampstead, London, on 24 August 1957, the son of Marianne Eve Fry and physicist/inventor Alan John Fry.

At the age of 18, Stephen spent three months on remand in Pucklechurch Prison for stealing a credit card of a close family friend.

Stephen is the reader for the British versions of all of J.K.Rowling's Harry Potter series of audio books.

Oxford English Dictionary has cited a Fry article as the earliest recorded use of the word "luvvie" (a person who is involved in the acting profession or the theatre, esp one with a tendency to affectation).

He is a passionate scholar of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and the Sherlock Holmes stories. In 2004 he appeared on Celebrity Mastermind with Doyle and Holmes as his specialist subject.He won the contest.

Was the best man at British comedian's Rowan Atkinson's wedding to Sunetra Sastry at the Russian Tea Room in New York City.

He was also best man at best friend Hugh Laurie's wedding and is godfather to all of his children. Fry and Laurie met whilst studing at cambridge in 1981.

Is a lifelong fan of the Championship club Norwich City Football. He joined the board of directors in August 2010.

Fry is allergic to both champagne and bumble bee stings.

Stephen had previously been a panelist on University Challenge as a student in 1980, representing Queens College, Cambridge. His team was beaten by Oxford college. He would later appear in the 'Young Ones' spoof of the programme.
